Olten - Aarau four-tracking underway

Swiss federal transport minister Mrs Doris Leuthard and members of the executive board of Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) officially launched major construction on May 2 on an €823m project to expand the 13km Olten - Aarau line from two to four tracks. The centerpiece of the project is the 3km Eppenberg Tunnel near the village of Woeschnau, which is due to be completed at the end of 2020, enabling the operation of half-hourly regional services between Olten and Aarau as well as a 15-minute interval Bern - Zuerich inter-city service. SBB launched preliminary works around Woeschnau and Gretzenbach last September.
