Alstom to build Perth EMUs

THE government of Western Australia announced on August 18 that Alstom Transport Australia has emerged as preferred bidder for a contract to supply and maintain 246 C Series EMU cars for the Perth Metronet suburban rail network. The $A 1.6bn ($US 1.08bn) fleet will comprise 102 vehicles for the Metronet expansion and 144 vehicles to replace the Transperth A Series EMUs built in 1991-1999.
