Crossing Borders: International Exchange and Planning Practices

Traditional interest in the 'politics of expertise' has distinctively shifted in recent years towards inquiry into its transnational and trans-local cross-bordering dynamics. Globalized economies put a premium on tapping into transnational knowledge resources, and their selective appropriation increasingly becomes a stake of local policy processes. Meanwhile, everyday understandings of knowledge and its production are affected, as academic education, professional training as well as economic diplomacy place an emphasis on promoting transnational exchange and, to an extent, back-up for practices already common in globalized business circuits.
