摘要

With the development of vast silos of information accompanying the evolution of the WWW, conventional information retrieval (IR) techniques based upon keyword search have been found to be lacking. People still have to locate information, but as searching the Web is invariably associated with retrieval from full-text sources, establishing the best mechanism for finding, selecting and retrieving appropriate information has become a real issue. The heavy present-day reliance on the use of search engines has brought this into even sharper focus. Search and retrieval in a Web-based situation has been made even more difficult because information sources are often multiple and the content invariably dynamic.
