Hydraulic behaviour of the diversion conduit gates at Caruachi

At the Caruachi scheme in Venezuela, the diversion conduits are now being closed off so that power test can begin on the first generating units. Model studies have been carried out at UPC, Spain, to study the hydraulic behaviour of the gates used for the closing operation. An analysis was made of the discharge and aeration capacity of the diversion conduits, the pressures in the ducts and the vibration and downpull forces on the gates.
