Kurobe, Japan's highest dam, enhances tourism in addition to hydro generation

Japan's highest dam, the Kurobe double curvature arch structure, was built in the 1950s to meet rapidly increasing demand for electricityrnin the post-war era. Today it has become a major tourist attraction, with more than one million visitors a year. This paper gives a briefrnoutline of the main design features, and the role it plays in tourism today.
