AfDB finances feasibility studies for Kholombidzo, Malawi

The African Development Bank (AfDB) announced in late March the approval of a US$ 3.04 million grant for a feasibility study for the Kholombidzo hydropower plant in Malawi. It added that the Government of Malawi would contribute the balance of the US$ $3.27 million total cost of the study. The AfDB said that the grant aims to produce a full bankable feasibility study for the future development of the power generation project to contribute to the expansion of electricity generating capacity in Malawi, which would ultimately help to address electricity shortages and enable the delivery of reliable energy and electricity access expansion in the country. Malawi currently has 300 MW of hydro in operation.
