Welcome to ASIA 2014: A practical gathering of experts to discuss achievements, challenges and future potential for Asia

Water resources and hydropower development targets and achievements in Asia continue to set more and more impressive world records. The world's largest dams, hydro plants and irrigation schemes can be found in the region; innovations in design abound; environmental and social issues are well addressed; and, Asian experience with cross-border hydro schemes and power trading set excellent examples for developing countries in other parts of the world. But it is well known that Asia faces some of the most challenging natural conditions that have an impact on water infrastructure: earthquakes, extreme floods and droughts, remote and complex sites, and today the additional complication of the changing climate, bringing new hazards such as intensified flooding, and melting glaciers in the Himalayan region.
