Recently while preparing to teach a graduate seminar on the use of technology in education for a group of K-12 classroom teachers, as a way of structuring the course I began to think about the top questions that we face today in how to use technology in education. Of course the technology has evolved very far in the past few years. In contrast, the pedagogical and overall administrative approaches have progressed hardly at all. In American higher education, the story is similar - the technology has made very rapid advances and the established base of faculty and student users is very broad now, but the development of new uses has stalled. In this first article for this new journal I want to outline some of the main issues in the use of technology in higher education by contrasting it with K-12 use.
