Strategic Planning: International Online Collaboration

The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) Deputy Librarian, Paiki Muswazi, and students enrolled in INFO 204 Information Professions taught by Sue Alman, San Jose State University (SJSU) School of Information (iSchool), have teamed together on several strategic planning projects in 2015. This collaboration has been mutually beneficial to the Wits University Library and the iSchool master of library and information science (MLIS) students. The Wits University Library has gained the perspective of students who have evaluated the library's strategic plan and made recommendations on ways to improve programs, services, and facilities to meet the goal of developing a 21st century academic library. In return, the students have gained practical field experience in an international environment and have had the opportunity to compare strategic plans of libraries in different parts of the world.
