Because of today's global business climate, many companies need experienced antitrust counsel to deal not only with the U.S. antitrust laws, but also the competition laws of other countries. In addition to needing to understand the jurisdictional issues raised by the antitrust laws, companies that plan to acquire foreign companies will need seasoned antitrust counsel to guide them through the merger process, from pre-merger notification to consummation. While there has been talk of establishing a global system of antitrust law, it is very unlikely to happen anytime soon. Until such time, companies doing business internationally need to be able to successfully navigate through the thicket of domestic and foreign antitrust laws.
