The present oversupply of liquefied natural gas shipping capacity has seen day-rates plummet to the point where they barely recover the operating expenses.rnOperating expenses have risen faster than many contracts envisaged, making life bleak for shipowners who have turned to an overcrowded spot market for business.rnThis state of affairs is due in part to the mismatch between the completion of shipyard work and the startup of projects, Debbie Turner of the Braemar Shipping Services brokerage said. "Ships come out on time, but projects slip," she told an ACI conference on LNG shipping in London.
