'Worst January ever'

Credit Suisse said January was the worst ever start to the year for its trading business and Deutsche Bank reckons February was not much better, deepening gloom about the performance of investment banks in a grim first quarter. Analysts have for some time been warning that investment bank revenues in the first quarter could be down 15%-20% from a year ago, but even that may be optimistic and revenues could drop by a quarter, based on the latest comments.
