Turkey's economy is broken. Everyone knows this apart from one person. Unfortunately, that person happens to be President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Turkey's growth was based on a familiar model: cheap credit. Banks would borrow money and then funnel the proceeds into the economy, mostly to infrastructure projects - bridges, ports, railways and the like. For a long time that model helped the economy boom. Now, though, the bubble has burst.
