Indian companies are expected to raise billions of US dollars in the international bond market after the central bank allowed them to refinance rupee debt offshore to alleviate tight credit conditions at home. The Reserve Bank of India on July 30 said that Indian corporates and non-banking financial companies would be able to use the proceeds from overseas borrowing to repay rupee debt. Previously, Indian companies could use offshore funding only for capital expenditure.
