Continued Fiber Growth in 2011 Despite Global Economic Sluggishness

Production volume in the global textile industry in 2011 rose by 6.4% to 85.9 million tons in all segments combined. Natural fibers were up by 7.1% to 33.2 million tons and manmade fibers went up by 6.0% to 52.7 million tons. Last year's use of fibers amounted to 82.0 million tons, up by 2.4%. Apart from the crisis year 2008, it was the slowest growth rate in ten years.
