Although China has progressed further than most countries in East and Southeast Asia in adopting strategic environmental assessments, it is still "a challenge" to promote their effectiveness when formulating regional and sectoral development plans, World Bank environmental specialist Jian Xie told BNA.rnStrategic environmental assessments are comparable to project-level environmental impact assessments but cover a larger scale, according to a World Bank report co-authored by Xie. They aim to ensure that environmental and sustainability concerns are integrated into national and regional policies, plans, and programs.
