摘要

Israeli officials have begun preparing for a voluntary audit by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in late 2012 that will evaluate the country's compliance with international standards of sea pollution prevention and nautical safety, Transportation Ministry officials confirmed July 19. Israel and Turkey are the first non-EU countries in the Mediterranean to volunteer for the IMO audit, which 26 countries worldwide have already passed. The audit will become mandatory for IMO members in 2014, with sanctions imposed on nonparticipating and non-compliant countries.
