摘要

The European Union's 25-year-old legal framework for carrying out environmental impact assessments (EIAs) for projects such as new roads and bridges should be revised to ensure more consistency across the 27-country bloc, the European Commission said in a proposal published Oct. 26.In particular, a more systematic approach should be taken to the screening of projects to see whether an EIA is required, and the scope of EIAs should be extended so that the impact of projects on climate change is taken into account, the Commission proposal said.
