EU Member States Ratify Law Setting Higher Targets for E-Waste Collection

Starting in 2016 EU countries will be required to collect at least 45 percent of the e-waste they produce under an updated law on waste electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE) approved by the EU Council June 7. In 2019 the minimum collection target will rise to 65 percent for most countries, though 10 mainly former-communist eastern EU member states will be able to defer the higher target until 2021, giving them more time to upgrade their waste collection and processing systems.
