Canadian Regulations Aim to Protect Water Resources in Northernmost Territory

Mining companies, oil and gas produc-ers, and other industrial facilities in Nunavut, Canada's northernmost territory, will face a lower threshold for when they must apply for licenses to use water and deposit waste in water under final regulations published May 8. The Nunavut Water Regulations will ensure protection of water resources while improving regulatory efficiency, Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada said in a statement published with the final regulations in the Canada Gazette, Part II.
