Canada Sets Greenhouse Gas Emissions Targets for 2030, But Goals Called Weak

Canada committed May 15 to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent from 2005 levels by 2030 and outlined planned regulatory actions intended to help achieve the target. The target is "fair and ambitious" and in line with commitments by other major industrialized nations and reflects Canada's circumstances, including as a world leader in clean electricity generation, Environment Minister Leona Aglukkaq said in a statement announcing Canada's Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Paris Nov. 30-Dec. 11.
