Olympic Games 2000 preparation

Considering what Sydney, Australia, has to offer, few other contenders ever had much of a chance in the competition to host the 2000 Olympic Games. The responsibility for the development of the infrastructure for the games has been placed in the hands of the Olympic Co-ordination Authority (OCA), which was set up in June 1995. Several locations have been incorporated into the overall scheme, including a centre for rowing in the Penrith lakes area west of Sydney, opened in March 1996, and the new convention centre at Darling Harbour, in the heart of the city, which will be used for some of the indoor events. However, the main facilities for the 2000 Games will be located at Homebush Bay, a 760ha area on the Parramatta River, close to Sydney's western suburbs.
