"The trend is going toward quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC), where the contractor is responsible for the material and end product for the user," said Steve Moore, General Superintendent, PAVEX Construction Division of Granite Rock, Redwood City, Ca. To gain more experience with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) in terms of QA/QC operations, PAVEX will undertake a demonstration of the process during an upcoming paving job on U.S. 101 in California. "We are going to go from testing in plant where the material is made, to actual profilograph on grade after placement," Moore said. "We're doing it on our own, but it's not required by the state of California at this time."
