Regional integration

The Integration of Regional Infrastructure in South America (URSA) initiative's main objective is to geographically integrate the region's countries with a continental grid of highways, waterways, and energy distribution and communications networks in order to develop and expand their economies. It was launched in 2000 and envisions two separate but related sets of initiatives. In one, the concept of development axes, known as Hubs, will be used to identify regions where groups of interrelated projects would contribute to sustainable development. The other will focus on processes, in which projects will be carried out to remove regulatory, operational and institutional bottlenecks that impede physical integration.
