Criminal charges for former SNC-Lavalin executives

Canadian authorities have charged two former executives of contractor SNC-Lavalin with the bribery of officials in Libya. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) levied criminal charges against Sami Bebawi, a former vice-president at the Montreal-based contractor, and Stephane Roy, another former SNC-Lavalin executive. Charges against Mr Bebawi include defrauding the Libyan state under the previous Gadhafi regime, corruption and money laundering. The former executive is accused of bribing government officials in return for public construction contracts. There is an outstanding warrant for his arrest, and he is believed to be living outside Canada.
