I'm sure you are tired of hearing that the broadcast industry has had a tough year. From NAB to IBC, the refrain from broadcasters has been the need to reduce the cost to air and increase efficiencies, while coping with the growing demands of 24hour television, which must be met with little or no extra budget. These pressures also create significant problems for the wider industry. The proliferation of new channels is diluting the television audience, which in turn makes it very difficult for producers seeking funding for new programmes, who must then squeeze their available budgets for post production; and there is no sign that this proliferation of channels is slowing down, when there is more bandwidth available and more ways to use it, and as satellite space is becoming more competitively priced. But it's not all bad news.
