Its Tannenzapfle pilsner is now also known to fans in the high north of Germany. The brewery continues to grow, investing in modern plant engineering including an Innofill Glass DRS glass bottle filler from the KHS Group. The Rothaus portfolio now includes several different beers ranging from pilsner to wheat beer, with and without alcohol, plus a shandy mixed beer beverage. Small batches of a single malt whisky and various special whisky editions have also been in the program since 2006. Tannenzapfle has proved especially successful and is one of the reasons why the brewery has repeatedly invested in powerful filling equipment. This makes high demands of the systems used as the high-quality beers are bottled without pasteurisation. Only the non-alcoholic varieties (pilsner and wheat beers) are heat treated owing to the beverages' lower intrinsic protection. As Tannenzapfle has more original gravity than standard beers there is a risk of products aging too quickly if there is too much oxygen pickup during filling. The Black Forest brewers thus opted for the KHS Innofill Glass DRS for reliable, low-oxygen filling, profiting from the Dortmund company's expertise in brewery machines.
