The Make in India initiative of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has caught the imagination of the global aerospace and defence majors keen on acquiring a pie of the fast expanding and lucrative Indian defence production business. In a major initiative aimed at boosting investments and ensuring a level-playing field from the Indian private defence industries and foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), the Indian Government has done away with the tax exemptions enjoyed by the state-owned aerospace and defence enterprises.
