EFFECTIVE RISK COMMUNICATION

Risk communication has been a thriving research area for more than 30 years now. Yet, despite all we have already learned about communicating risks, success stories are still harder to find than spectacular failures, and there seems to be quite a gap between risk communication research and risk communication practice. Against this background, Effective Risk Communication, the 27th volume in the Earthscan Risk in Society series, looked very promising, and I sat to it expecting not only a good read but also, as the title states, many examples of effective risk communication. The editors, Joseph Arvai and Louie Rivers III, set out to provide not only an overview of the past achievements, but also new research perspectives in the field.
