BINDT has recently been approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education to conduct end-point assessments for the Industrial Coatings Inspector apprenticeship (ST0463) and the first two apprentices will have their interviews conducted this month via video conferencing. On 14 August, BINDT hopes to hold a conference call on Scottish apprenticeships and details will be sent to previous employer attendees. We are 95% of the way to securing positive changes to a Technician apprenticeship (for example including PCN or EN 4179 qualifications) and have reached 100% on the Engineer degree apprenticeship at the University of Strathclyde. The only Rolls-Royce apprentice we have in Scotland, starting September 2020, will be a direct entrant to the second year of this programme as he has previous educational experience. I am particularly pleased that the costs are zero for the employer (I think I have mentioned this before!); the drawback is that there is tough competition to get into the programme. A meeting will be held in August to go through the changes to the three English apprenticeship programmes to make them more inclusive of condition monitoring and structural health monitoring. It makes sense to merge the requirements into the existing apprenticeships and feedback from industry and government reflects this.
