The effect of the structure of 25V20K20Kh4F2M steel processed with concentrated flows of nitrogen ions on its tribotechnical properties and corrosion resistance of the surface layers is studied. It is found that ion-beam treatment leads to an increase in the steel microhardness to H_(0.49) = 12300 M Pa. The wear resistance of the surface layers, modified with nitrogen ions, increases by 2.1 times, and corrosion resistance in 10% aqueous solution of NaCl increases by 20%. The increase in corrosion resistance is concluded to result from a decrease in the concentration of V and W atoms in the matrix phase due to the precipitation of nano-sized nitride particles VN and W_2N in the nitrided layer.
