Using pharma technologies to generate functional food ingredients

We believe that the food industry has a lot to gain from these "pharmaceutical" approaches to the discovery of functional food ingredients. Finding the right food compounds for the right biological effect necessitates a systematic scientific approach. Screening and assay-based approaches to the analyses of large numbers of botanical extracts and compounds should and does identify viable ingredients with biological functions that may be of use as additives.This is all the more true using platforms such as IMD BIOPROFILING~®, when the screening can draw on substantial proprietary functional data on each individual compound in the library. IMD BIOPROFILING~® has already demonstrated the value of this approach and is at present generating functional food ingredients with real commercial potential.
