Increasing demand, from the consumer side, for the usage of natural products has led to the exploitation at large scale of microalgae as a source of natural active molecules including pigments/colours. Among the extensive range of pigments present in algae, phycobiliproteins are one of the major constituents of microalgae like Spirulina, an algae used in many countries as a dietary supplement whose nutritional and therapeutic values have been very well documented so far. ALCOSOURCE has developed extracts and final products enriched with this Interesting protein called phycocyanin in Spirulina, which can represent up to 40% of its total proteins content and has a proven record for its strong antloxldant activity. "We are now launching clinical trials to prove the strong antioxidant status of our Spirulina extract enriched in phycocyanin as the molecule has massive commercial value as natural colourants in sectors like nutraceutical and cosmetic, besides Its health benefits" said Dr. Jean-Michel Pommet, Senior Manager Products & Business Development at ALCOSOURCE.
