Nutrition is key for optimal sports performance, with athletes seeking solutions that address muscle function, endurance and recovery throughout their sports journey. However, dietary requirements vary depending on the kind of sport and between elite athletes and everyday enthusiasts, as well as changing before, during and after exercise. The importance of targeted nutrition tailored to specific needs is becoming increasingly recognized, with consumers demanding more customized, high quality and differentiated products from cutting-edge brands. In addition, manufacturers are under increasing pressures to otter natural and clean label' ingredients in line with the latest consumer trends. Boosting recovery and muscle function Achieving maximum recovery is crucial, especially for athletes that undergo periods of repeated intense efforts. Excessive exercise, typically experienced during demanding training regimes, puts a lot of strain on the body. When the heart rate reaches 82% of its maximum, thrombin and epinephrine (adrenaline) are released into the bloodstream, activating blood platelets within approximately three minutes. Platelet activation contributes to delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), poor sleep and extended periods of tiredness, as well as inflammation. Ultimately, these effects on the body slow down recovery for up to 48 hours after exercise. This can be particularly challenging for professional athletes who exercise regularly, as it can have a significant impact on overall sports performance.
