From 2d To 3d Via Shape Palettes

A new interaction approach termed "Shape Palettes" should make it easy even for amateur digital artists to create three-dimensional content. The ability of ordinary people to generate digital content is a cornerstone of the digital age. The bulk of such media today is in the form of photographs and videos, which are easily generated by anyone who owns a camera or a mobile phone. Two-dimensional images can also be easily created or modified with existing software such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Three-dimensional content, however, remains difficult for the average computer user to create. This article describes a technique that aims to put the third dimension within easier reach.
