CENSAM and Singapore's Environment

The island city of Singapore is the site for a bold new international research programme called Centre for Environmental Sensing and Modeling or CENSAM. CENSAM is one of a series of interdisciplinary research programs initiated by the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology Centre (SMART) - a joint venture between MIT and the National Research Foundation of Singapore established in January 2008.rnThe CENSAM research programme is led by Professor Andrew Whittle from MIT's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. CENSAM will develop pervasive environmental sensor networks to collect data on parameters ranging from urban atmospheric conditions to marine water quality, and use this data to develop more realistic and accurate models of environmental processes. Much of the research is carried out in laboratories at the SMART Centre currently located on the campus of the National University of Singapore (NUS).
