摘要

Advancing Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice through Human Systems Engineering highlights how scholars and practitioners of human systems engineering can apply theories and methods to understand and support healthy communities, empower diverse populations and inspire strategies for inclusion. The book's editors - Erin K. Chiou, Ph.D., and Rod D. Roscoe, Ph.D., of Arizona State University and Abigail R. Wooldridge, Ph.D., of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign - collected research reports, reviews and narratives from experts in human factors, ergonomics, psychology, human-computer interaction and other fields to show how each can be applied to societal challenges and solutions on a global scale across diverse populations. The authors' preface states, "We believe that these human-focused and system-oriented approaches are perfectly suited to address human-focused and system-oriented threats to diversity and inclusion, and to generate the necessary knowledge, strategies, and tools for promoting social justice." In the foreword, USE Fellow Tonya Smith-Jackson wrote: "To be at our best as human systems engineers (inclusively defined), we need to embrace diversity and inclusion as underlying principles in everything we do. It is not about a moral conscience, although that too is important. It is about practicing rigorous, valid and innovative human systems engineering from the beginning to the end of the line of inquiry, while also demonstrating that we respect life and quality of life, regardless of differences." Advancing Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice through Human Systems Engineering is published by CRC Press, $119.
