Facility planning has come to fish farming, and it's direly needed, according to aquaculture researcher Andy Danylchuk at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.Danylchuk and his colleagues said few have applied today's emphasis on eating local food to fish, and those intrepid entrepreneurs have been beaten by energy and feed costs, building-related problems and environmental woes. So his team is melding building design, fish ecology, aquaculture and engineering techniques to offer more affordable and sustainable approaches to indoor fish production.
