Materials testing with a rounded single-crystal diamond tip

The usual methods adopted for determining the surface fatigue resistance of materials involve the use of test apparatus fitted with two or more rolling balls or discs. This type of apparatus is of relatively complicated construction and does not lend itself to large-scale testing. However, the process can be simplified by using a sliding, rounded natural diamond tip, as described by I. Iliuc and M. Jokl.
