San Diego was this year's host city for the GaAs Mantech Conference, now renamed the International Conference on Compound Semiconductor MANufacturing TECHnology, signifing the acceptance of a wider scope for the meeting, now officially including other compound semiconductor materials. This could eventually lead to a 'CS-MANTECH Conference' which would become the focus for all compound semiconductor manufacturing technology. Unless one believes ALL the hype, the general consensus for the recovery of the GaAs market will depend on the increased use of superior performance GaAs-based amplifiers and other circuits in the 'recovering' cellphone handset market and for the growing number of wireless base station applications.
