The feasibility of using narrow-spectral-linewidthndistributed-feedback lasers as subcarrier multiplexing videondistribution sources in optical heterodyne FM converters is shown byninvestigating degradation modes of the lasers. There is no change in thendynamic properties, such as the FM response and the compositensecond-order and composite triple-beat figures, though spectralnlinewidth is increased by degradation. The main degradation appears asnan increase in spectral linewidth due to 1/f noise caused by buriednheterointerface degradation. The FM response, composite second-order,nand composite triple-beat, however, hardly change in the degradationnprocess
