OEMs, suppliers up the pace on PHEVs

Plug-in, or charge-depleting, hybrids are gaining ground, with automakers demonstrating technology and announcing commitment to development. Suppliers, too, are coming onboard. Last month, DaimlerChrysler, the New York Power Authority (NYPA), and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) teamed to display the Sprinter Van plug-in concept vehicle in New York City. One of the concept utility vehicles was showcased at the Hugh L. Carey Battery Park City at the Solaire, which NYPA says is the first residential high-rise green building in the U.S. NYPA plans to join other fleets around the country to demonstrate the vehicles.
