摘要

Here's a way not to save on labor costs: hire Hispanic employees because they work cheap, and reject non-Hispanics.rnThat is apparently what Compare Foods, a North Carolina supermarket operator, did. The company's actions ended up costing it $30,000, to settle a reverse race discrimination lawsuit filed by the EEOC.rnThe EEOC said the company fired a non-Hispanic meat cutter and replaced him with a less qualified Hispanic in a "racially motivated maneuver."rnAlthough the EEOC didn't explicitly link this "maneuver" to cost savings, the agency previously settled a similar suit against Compare Foods for $40,000, and said then that it was concerned about employers using Hispanic workers just to cut costs and/or cater to other Spanish speakers.
