HUD Urges PHAs to Provide MoreSearch Time to Help Disabled Families Find Units for Vouchers

Providing guidance on helping disabled persons find housing with a Section 8 voucher, HUD urged PHAs to provide more search time beyond the minimum 60 days and to provide information about accessible units and available supportive services. The guidance follows up on President Bush's Executive Order 13217 implementing the U.S. Supreme Court's 1999 decision in Olmstead v. L.C., which requires states, whenever possible, to place qualified persons with disabilities in community settings rather than in institutions.
