The U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut ordered an independent living facility to scale back its requirement for background and medical information for applicants to conform to the Fair Housing Act's ban on discrimination against the handicapped. Conn.), September 29, 2007)rnPlaintiff Denise LaFlamme, who suffers from depressions and physical disabilities that confine her to a wheelchair, signed a lease for an apartment at New Horizons Village (NHV), an independent living complex authorized by state statute and run in cooperation with the Connecticut Department of Social Services (DSS) and the University of Connecticut Health Center.
