Final Rules Issued to Implement Violence Against Women Act

HUD has issued final regulations implementing provisions of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) making certain clarifying changes in the interim rules published on November 28, 2008. VAWA protects families receiving public housing or Section 8 assistance when family members are victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking, and as HUD noted when it issued the interim rules, the statutory provisions were determined to be self-executing. The final regulations were published in the October 27 Federal Register and go into effect on November 26.
