WHITE PAPER COMPARES ON- CAMPUS VS. OFF-CAMPUS STUDENT HOUSING COSTS

The White Paper "Comparing the Costs of On-Campus and Off-Campus Student Housing: An Analysis of Housing Options at 22 Universities" was released in October by the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) and Axiometrics, a Real-Page Company. Private, purpose-built student housing properties have become known for their comfortable amenities and polished finishes. As their reputation has grown and the cost of earning a college degree increases, questions have been raised about the affordability of these amenity-rich housing options. One response to this has been to contend that students living off campus in purpose-built student housing get more for their money than students living on campus. No quantitative evidence was available to defend this response until this study, which included of 22 universities.
