Energy Boost

Marie Patel, manager of Comfort Inn, Arcata, California, runs around every day telling housekeeping staff to turn off lights and turn down heat. In her own office, she keeps light to a minimum and has installed stickers in each of the hotel's guestrooms asking guests to conserve energy whenever possible. Although she felt helpless, Patel feels the hotel was lucky not to have any blackouts during the energy shortage that struck California in the Fall of 2000.
