Leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, bears, zebras, even antelopes. Only not exactly. Call them fur rugs of the faux kind. Whereas taxidermy trophy kills were once signature to private social clubs for the affluent, today's decor calls for a different kind of animal look that relies more on inspiration than on real, hunted skins. "People are gravitating toward nomadic, tribal feeling textiles and animal prints are one extension of that," explained Cyrus Loloi, principal of Loloi Rugs. "Zulu for example, is a very soft interpretation of the animal print trend that is returning to popularity now, but it still has the Loloi original spin on it." The company's new Zulu rug collection, named after South Africa's largest ethnic group, is hand-tufted in India of 100% polyester and features "a modern interpretation of a chic safari zebra rug" whose synthetic construction emphasizes comfort and durability, he continued.
